Yeosu Expo will also hold academic events under the theme of “The Living Ocean and Coast,” to discuss and find solutions to climate change and other issues. An experience program on marine culture will also be offered to help understand the ocean and maritime industries, designed for students and non-academics. Symposiums and forums will be held for industry personnel and experts, but 40% of these events will be held for the general public.
International symposiumsInternational symposiums promoting the Expo theme will be held during the course of the Expo. Marine experts will participate in 5 large-scale international symposiums. For two days from July 9, a symposium in cooperation with the OECD will be held called the “Future of the Ocean Economy.” On August 8, “Alleviating Hunger and Poverty, Making a Difference with Fish” will be hosted jointly with the FAO. In addition, 5 days from May 15, climate change will be addressed at “Effects of Climate Change on the World's Oceans” symposium focusing on how world oceans are now being impacted by climate change.
