POSCO Pavilion

The POSCO Pavilion takes “Communication between Nature, People and POSCO” as its main theme. Resembling the shape of a chambered nautilus polished over time and a human ear opened towards the ocean, the building’s asymmetric lines combine to offer an array of views depending on where you are standing. The seamlessness of the structure inside and out conveys the free-flowing aspects of the ocean and sky, and their interaction and communication with people. The exhibits here are presented under five subjects: Love, Challenge, World, Environment and Ocean. POSCO Big Men which appear at night on the POSCO Pavilion give visitors a pleasant surprise.

1F(Entrance: A Window that Opens to the Sky and the Ocean)

A glimmering ray of sunlight beams through the skylight in the entrance to the POSCO Pavilion. Images displaying the history of POSCO line the entrance walls and thousands of pinwheels brighten the space as symbols of the flow of nature and time. The stairway leading to the second floor takes you to the shell-shaped observatory, where you can feel the cool breeze on your face and take in a breathtaking view of the ocean.

2F(Stories of POSCO: Love, Challenge, World, Environment, and Green)

An adventure inside a chambered nautilus inspired by the five stories of Love, Challenge, World, Environment and Ocean awaits visitors on the second floor. POSCO’s love song is played when visitors ring a bell; the company’s challenges are relayed with huge question marks; its position in the world is introduced through a dolphin submarine; its environmental stewardship is described in a story book; and its visions for the ocean of the future are presented alongside an ocean waterfall. All contents integrate analogue sensibilities and digital media.

1F(Multimedia Show: Vital Symphony)

The last exhibition space borrows its shape from the inner spiral of a clam as well as the cochlea of the ear. The sound box here combines the sounds of nature, people and POSCO to create a great symphony, called the “Vital Symphony,” played to herald the opening of a new ocean age. The 13.5 channel sound system prevails in this grand space. As the symphony plays, a 360-degree circle vision animated film is shown which portrays water, fire, the moon and seeds as symbols of the will and hope of POSCO in the marine age. The film and the symphony combine to gradually reveal the exciting dramatic reversal of the exhibition.
